Have you noticed the posts have been slow going lately? With good reason. Our little man has been keeping his mama busy. There are so many things that Sam is doing that I don't want to forget...and I know it's just the beginning! So here goes my attempt at documenting this time in our lives... let me start with how having a baby has changed my life...then we"ll get into how this 11lbs of joy has changed us for the better.
Let me start with a glimpse at my morning:
1. I am on outfit number four...thanks to either spilled breast milk or spit up. Holy laundry overload!
2. One of the cleaning ladies at our house this morning asked if the bridal portrait on our bedroom wall was me. The kind of question you understand when you are 80 not 29. Guess sleep, a shower and makeup does wonders for me.
3. I just realized that said spit up from outfit change number three may still be between my toes. Impressive.
And now to why it's all worth it:
Yes. He is smiling now. And cooing. We have some pretty funny conversations already and I can hardly wait to hear what he is thinking. He also is working on his dance moves...
And Matt and I get this face...a lot. We call it his "dramatic chipmunk" face. Yes...youtube reference can be seen here
It is so hard for me to imagine that just 8 weeks ago he still fit inside of me...and this beautifully wonderfully perfectly made little boy was given to us. Have I mentioned yet that we love love love the Charleston Birth Place? We could not have asked for a more perfect birth experience for our boy. Matt and I wanted a drug-free start for Sam in this world so we went with a natural water birth with some amazing midwives. Yes- we did deliver in a giant hot tub...and wow was it an experience. Amazing to see how quickly both Sam and I recovered.
Some things we've learned about Sam so far:
He loves his changing table. Still not sure if he can see the truck picture I hung above it or if it's the reflection of the glass....regardless it is one of his favorite places to hang out. The good news for Mama is that this means diaper and clothes changes are a breeze. He doesn't mind them a bit!
He loves to sleep at night but fights it during the day. I am pretty sure he thinks he is going to miss something (we are working on this...highly recommend the 90 minute sleep solution! Great book!)
He sleeps like a champ if we hold him instead of putting him in his crib. He needs his people!
I must have jostled him around a good bit in the womb because this little boy is happiest if he is moving!
And now time to mark this to be continued...my "power napper" just decided that rest time is over! More soon!
